As someone who’s okay at painting I can tell you that painting these kinds of landscapes to ‘flex your skills’ is the most retard garbage bait any artist can do.
And I will show you how someone with no skills can get the same result.
What the fuck are you on about
These people that show off these paintings generally just try to skill-bait you on how hard these things are to do, when generally its pretty simple once you take a longer then 5 second look at it.
I’m not gonna break down the painting into the foreground and whatever the fuck because:
- I dont fucking care
- I’m not a art school graduate I’m self taught
Anyway so see this painting for example:
You can break this down to brush strokes, and if you look closely you can see exactly how each thing was made.
First this guy probably painted the top of the canvas in the skycolor or something adjacent, then did an undercoat for the bushes with some dark green. The water is literally just putting the paintbrush at about a 45 degree angle handle facing the bottom and sliding it left and right with 3 main colors (there’s literally no reflection in it, shocker) the trees in the back are legit just taking the brush from the top and making a sort of “wave” motion and increasing the amp the more it goes down. The mountains are a blob of grey with a singular white brush stroke going on the side where light is coming from. The bushes are just taps with the paintbrush flat on the canvas (imagine “stabbing” it like with a knife but gently) with brighter greens, and the clouds use the same but with white. AND THAT’S IT, that’s the whole fucking painting, and some people will act shocked and respectful towards these people, knowing this is the only shit you can do.
What the hell is the point of this post
The main reason is to not fall for this engagement bait, the second, arguably more important is to not fall for this trap, painting shit like this constantly and then thinking you’re the shit.
I’ve seen people fall into the trap of painting stuff like this over and over again and not actually doing anything else, thinking painting is like a video game skill that if you do one thing over and over it will improve, that’s not true. You will ONLY improve at the thing you’re currently painting, I can only draw hot men and metal, if you ask me to draw some fucking modern scenery, or women I’m fucked, and it will look like someones first time ever painting, but I’ve never done any landscape painting, and when you tell me to do that I can give you a result which looks like one of these shits, see the problem?
